Our Eye Doctors

Eye care professionals specialize in understanding how the human eye really works, as well as diseases and conditions that affect your vision – many of which do not have obvious symptoms. Eye doctors know how age and risk factors affect vision over time for young and old, and they understand the benefits and features of corrective lenses including eyeglasses and contacts.

The optometrists at Eyecare Eyewear Summerville take the time to explain the results of your eye exam, describe your options and listen to your eye care needs. Because maintaining good eye health is an ongoing partnership, we encourage you to ask questions and share your health information, which could be vital to monitoring, diagnosing and treating potential vision problems.

Meet our doctors:

Donald J. Koets, O.D.

Dr. Don Koets has been practicing in the lowcountry of South Carolina since 1973. Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and educated at Indiana University in Bloomington, he moved to Charleston after serving as a Captain in the US Army. He opened his first office in Mt. Pleasant, where he was the first optometrist there, and not long after, he opened a satellite office on King St. in downtown Charleston. After moving to Summerville in 1982 and fighting the daily commute, he decided to consolidate his practice and move his office to the lovely town he calls home … Summerville. Since then, Dr. Koets has continued to build a loyal following of patients from the Summerville area as well as old patients from Mt. Pleasant and Charleston. “Knowing we can always count on Dr. Koets to take good care of us and our eyes makes it worth the trip!”

Practicing here as Eyecare Eyewear of Summerville, Dr. Koets still offers his personal care and longtime experience in providing thorough eye exams. His practice has expanded to include a well-stocked optical section, where helpful trained staff assist in selecting and fitting eyeglasses and contact lenses, cutting lenses in the in-house optical lab, and repairing eyeglasses. From the time patients call or walk in the door, they are met by friendly faces and skilled staff to serve their eyecare needs. Assistance is also available in filing vision insurance claims.

Long known for always standing behind his work, Dr. Koets and his staff are appreciated for the time and expertise and personal care they provide.
